HELP THE KIDS LEARN ABOUT AMERICA

American Legion Post 797 of Gahanna has committed a sum of money to help an organization in Gahanna to supply Backpacks and school supplies to 'needy' Elementary students in Gahanna Schools.  This seems to be an excellent way for us to help our children to understand more about their country and why we do many of the things we do.  It was during the 4th of July Parade that some younger children were asked why we have such a parade, and why people stand when the National Anthem is played, and why some people salute when the Flag passes by.  We hope to use this opportunity to answer these questions and more by supplying an additional item to those backpacks. In order to do this, we are asking for donations.  The booklets that we intend to provide deal only with Americanism, such as what our Flag stands for, why there should be a Flag in our classrooms, why we say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, what it means to be an American, and who and what our Veterans are, and what they did to become Veterans.  These are Patriotic booklets, not propoganda such as some of the schools dole out, and we feel certain that when you see them, you will agree that they are very worthwhile.  The American Legion stands by these booklets to be forthright and made for children to read. Please help us to provide this little extra to the children, as being a small Post in Gahanna, we work hard for every dollar we take in, and try to spend it wisely on our youth and our Veterans, so our funds are limited.  We feel that these booklets  should go to every Elementary student we can possibly supply, so we are looking to purchase at least 500 of them at a cost of $59.00 per hundred.  If you could find your way to help us out in this very worthwhile venture, you can donate by mailing a check to American Legion Post 797, P.O. Box 30843, Gahanna, OH 43230, or you can donate via Paypal. OUR PAYPAL LINK IS TEMPORARILY DOWN, so please go to Paypal.com and send your donation to site@al797.org .  It should be back up sometime Monday, August 2d.   Thank you for your support.
