HELP THE KIDS LEARN ABOUT AMERICA

American Legion Post 797 of Gahanna has committed a sum of money to help an organization in Gahanna to supply Backpacks and school supplies to 'needy' Elementary students in Gahanna Schools.  This seems to be an excellent way for us to help our children to understand more about their country and why we do many of the things we do.  It was during the 4th of July Parade that some younger children were asked why we have such a parade, and why people stand when the National Anthem is played, and why some people salute when the Flag passes by.  We hope to use this opportunity

MESOTHELIOMA - Learn more about it - Veterans are at risk!

Veterans comprise approximately 30 percent of all mesothelioma diagnoses due to asbestos-contaminated products that were used by the military, primarily by the Navy, from the 1930s through the 1970s. Pleural mesothelioma can be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

The Gahanna Post of the American Legion was founded in 2002, with Gahanna veterans of various military backgrounds coming together to form a unit that started  with 26 veterans.  Since then, we have grown to a present 338 members, having been joined by veterans from other communities, who, having a dedication to serving their country and community, have put their efforts towards serving the community of Gahanna by providing High School students the opprtunity to play American Legion Baseball, to participate in the Oratorical Contests conducted annually, to attend the Buckeye

BLOOD FOR OUR TROOPS - Sep 26, 2010

Once again we are asking for donations to the Armed Services Blood Program so we have sufficient blood to send to Iraq and Afghanistan to help our troops who are continually in need of this life-saving substance.  I hate to say this, but BLOOD DONATIONS FOR OUR TROOPS IS LACKING OUR DEDICATED EFFORT!  These guys and gals are putting their lives in danger for us and we owe it to them to provide the blood they need to survive if they get wounded or injured while in constant danger in a far-away land.

SPECIAL AMERICANISM PROJECT

Over the course of many years now, the topic of Americanism in our schools has been on the decline.  This is not a local event, but a national one, and our local schools are beginning to join the decline.  Our children are not being taught the real history of our country, our people, and our beliefs, and sadly, they are not learning much of it from us.  While the American Legion does all it can to promote Americanism and patriotism, it is difficult to make the impression on these children when they do not get it anywhere else.

AMERICAN PATRIOT PROGRAM NATIONAL HONOR EVENT

Please click on the following link to view all the photos from the American Patriot Program National Honor Event.  One of our Post Officers, John Chestna was instrumental in setting up this event and insuring it's success.  John received a great many accolades from his fellow patriots for his handling of this event and was also one of the honorees at the event.  GREAT JOB JOHN!!
